Little Boy Blue breaks his maiden in great style at the Valley

January 9th, 2009

3yo Colt Little Boy Blue (Beckett x Stanza Blue) was able to break his maiden in terrific style at Moonee Valley on Friday night in his first attempt over 1600mtrs.

Little Boy Blue
has always been a "typical" colt and had a tendency to get very worked up before and during his races, but today at the Valley, he was on his best behaviour.

Ridden perfectly by Brenton Avdulla, Little Boy Blue was able to jump out perfectly from a wide barrier and use his early gate speed to sit just outside the lead throughout the race.  He looked to settle well and was outside the leader the entire race.

Rounding the home turn he always looked like he was traveling the better, and even when he layed in a little when asked to stretch out over the final 150mtrs, he had the race "run and won", sticking his head out on the line to break through for his 1st win.

Bred to get over 2000mtrs plus, Little Boy Blue looks like he'll be one to watch when he get over the longer trips and matures.

It was great for THR to get a winner early in the new year and start with a city winner in 2009 and kick start what we see as a very successfull year ahead for the stable.

Congratulation to the Azzopardi and Spiteri families for the great maiden win of Little Boy Blue (the first of many!!!).
