THR on Fire in 2009

February 1st, 2009

THR gets another 2 wins in a week.

Trojan Lass (Helissio x Dux of the Class) made it 2 wins in a week after a stunning performance coming from near last on the turn to win at Moonee Valley in the $60,000 (Mares 0-82) over 1500mtrs.

Trojan Lass a week earlier was able to comfortably win at Mornington, but this sensational win at Moonee Valley on Friday night proved that she is a most valuable mare going places.

She was stuck on the rails, close to the rear coming to the home turn and seemed out of contention, but Brenton Avdulla was able to somehow find the smallest of gaps to at least get her of the rails rounding the home turn.  She found trouble again, but Brenton continued to force her out and got into the clear, but all too late it seemed.

Straightening, Trojan Lass seemed to find another gear that only special horses can and let down with a withering burst to come over the top of the field in the last 100mtrs and get to the post first in a performance that had everyone shaking their heads!

Full credit must go to the ride by Brenton Avdulla, who found room where there wasn’t any and found gaps at the right time.  Another super ride in trying circumstances by the Kid that seems to be going places.

Fast forward a week and it was Fast Eddie (Octangonal x Ponton Flyer) in the spotlight getting to the line first again in the ever familiar colours of the Whittenbury family in the Showcase CL2 over 2025mtrs at Cranbourne.

Fast Eddie seemed to be over racing throughout and was snagged at the rear on the rails coming to the 400mtrs.  The long striding gelding seemed to be finding trouble again with a wall of horses in front of him coming to the home turn, but again Brenton Avdulla was able the waive his “magic stick” and find away to get him off the rails and into the clear.  Brenton then found a way to lift him over the entire field to get the post first in the photo in another performance that had people asking “how did he win that???”

Even when Fast Eddie seemed to lay in 50mtrs out, Brenton was able to straighten him back up and keep him going through the gap to hit the line hard and get the winner’s cheque.

Another 10/10 ride for Brenton Avdulla who seems to be striking up a strong winning combination with the stable, with plenty more on the way in the coming weeks I'm sure!
