Little Boy Blue does it again...
October 4th, 2009
Little Boy Blue (Beckett x Stanza Blue) made a big impact on Benalla Cup Day when he took out the $35,000 Premier Race over 1506mtrs.
In what was a very good quality field, Little Boy Blue ran his typical gritty race to get to the winning post 1st for the 3rd time in his career.
Starting from barrier 10, Little Boy Blue had to push hard to get across, and wasn't able to get to the rails and was made to work throughout the entire race, but rounding the turn, just when you thought he would die on his run, he dug deep and was able to get to the front and hold on down to straight to past the post first in what is probably his best win of his career so far.
Little Boy Blue wasn't fancied in betting and ended up paying just under $40.00 for the win, and this is also after his 1st run this preperation when he was run down late into 2nd at the long odds of $60.00.
Tommy put the win down to being down in the weights for the first time for a while and finding what he thinks is Little Boy Blue's perfect distance, 1500mtrs.
Credit also has to go to a good ride for young claiming apprentice jockey Nathan Rose, whose 2kg claim really helped late in getting him over the line.
This win kicks off what could be a big couple months for THR.
Bendigo this Thursday we see talented Miss Octopussy (Lonhro x Ponton Flyer) again, who is sure to run a terrific race and will be in the finish for sure, and we'll also see the 1st starter Alfiler (Pins x Quiescent) head to the track for the first time.
In the coming weeks we'll see lightly raced stayer Volcanic Star find a nice race in some nice Spring Staying Races which he'll give a good shake now he's rock hard fit after his solid effort in the Benalla Cup.
Stakes placed Minnesota Shark isn't far away from his come back as well and has been really pleasing the stable with how he is coming along.
Just a few names to watch in the coming weeks.
