THR double @ Echuca

March 30th, 2010

THR continued their good run of late with a race-to-race double @ Echuca with both Alfiler and Have a Shot winning in fine style.

Lightly raced 3yo Alfiler (Pins x Quiescent) followed on from his terrific 1st up run, breaking through for his maiden win at his next start.  Bred to get over ground, it was very pleasing to see him break his maiden over 1600mtrs at only his 4th start.

Alfiler over raced throughout and didn't enjoy the slow tempo, and rounding the turn he wanted to lay out and duck in, but his class got him over the line, and when Dean Holland was finally able to straighten him up, he let down well and hit the line hard.

He's still a big baby and very green, but Tommy thinks he has a future and if he can stay, they'll be a nice race in him in the near future.

The following race saw Have a Shot (Regal Shot x Dividend) follow up his last start win will another most dominate performance proving he's a horse going places.

Ridden perfectly just off the speed by Dean Holland, Have a Shot always looked to be travelling and rounding the turn, once balanced up, he let down with his customary finishing sprint to comfortably win, eased up to the post.

In what was another brilliant training performance by Tommy Hughes, bringing Have a Shot back in distance from 1200mtrs to 1000mtrs, after the horse hadn't race for over 18months until a few weeks ago when he broke his maiden, proving that Tommy has his stable flying at the moment!!!

These are definately 2 horses to watch out for in the future....
