Tommy Cat breaks through for maiden win

August 7th, 2008

At only his 4th time to the race track, Tommy Cat (Delago Brom - Flamber) was able to break through for his maiden win after winning the race after protesting against the first horse past the post, Congo Red on Thursday at Bendigo.

Tommy Cat, ridden by Jamie Mott, travelled well and sat handy throughout on the heavy ground and coming to the turn looked to be going well enough to win the race, but Congo Red, ridden by Brad Rawiller, was going to make Tommy Cat work hard for his first win.

Coming into the home straight, Brad Rawiller found it hard to stop his mount from continually laying in and making contact with Tommy Cat.  Contact was made by Congo Red up to 4 times in the straight, yet Tommy Cat fought to the line hard, continually picking up the bit, even when been constantly impeded by Congo Red, going down by a short half head on the line.

The protest was lodged and upheld giving Tommy Cat his maiden win, showing that there a more wins to come from this lightly raced Delago Brom gelding when he gets over some more ground in the near future.
